Re: Even now, you continue to lie, lie, lie.

Well, I didn't directly quote you, but, I think I characterized the spirit of some of your responses. Perhaps I shouldn't have made a reference to old posts. I think I was responding as much or more to Paul, Elmer, and Be, as you. Unfortunately, and probably unfairly, yours happened to be the last post in a string I read. I'm sorry about that, especially since you're one of the few on these boards that shares my concern that the market could, at some point decide that entry level processors are good enough (and make life miserable for both AMD and Intel). That said, here are a few of your old posts:

I feel that 840 Carmel is a nice chipset that fills the space between the desktop and the enterprise server. But make no mistake about it, 820 Camino is the chipset that will spearhead Rambus' volume penetration into the market.

My view still stands, that RDRAM will show better performance improvements in the future, especially as Coppermine is released and software starts to create more complex memory traffic patterns. Of course, that's a pretty hopeful and naive statement considering the current situation we're in, but hey, this thread could stand to see a little more optimism these days.

As usual, Dan, you're tossing up assumptions in the air and passing them off as fact. I can guarantee you that the 760's north bridge alone will cost at least $60 more to manufacture than the Tehama north bridge. (That 760 north bridge will have well over 1,000 pins; 840's north bridge isn't even above 500, and Tehama will probably add another 100 pins because of the Willamette/Foster bus.) Then add electricals, board traces, etc., and you're looking at another $60 to $100.

Gee, that turns out to be $120 to $160 of additional cost just for the motherboard. Better hope RDRAM prices stay sky-high forever. (Better hope DDR-266 yields pretty well, too; seems like the intro of a DDR-200 speed grade wouldn't be necessary if 266 were yielding well.)

Note that dual processor Rambus boards currently start at about $300 on pricewatch, while dual processor AMD 760 boards start at about $200.

Here's where you offer to sell those of us who expected SOI success the Brooklyn Bridge (but it was really Wann_BMW and that did the big SOI flip-flop:

Oh, that's a good one, straight from the YUK. Motorola plans on reaching 1 GHz using a combo of 0.18u, copper, and SOI on their PowerPC CPU. Then from there, they're going to jump to 10 GHz with a simple shrink to 0.13u?

Hey Dan, while you're at it, you might also want to try this web site:

Here's one of mine from August of 1999 that I found as was looking through old posts. At this time Intel was showing roadmaps for PIII to be at something like 667 by year end with Athlon at 600:
Nope, from everything I've read, Athlon has a chance at 1GHZ by year end and 1.2 or 1.4 by Q2 2000. But most likely is 750 by year end and 1 or 1.2 by Q2.

If Intel is at 800 in November, it is a horse race again, but with AMD much more competitive than it was a few months ago due to the floating point of the Athlon architecture.

I still don't see why the shrink to .18 isn't expected to yield at least 800MHZ for Intel. Can Scumbria, John Petzinger, Bill Jackson, Tenchusatsu or Process Boy help out? Is 800 really the expectation of all of you too, and you're just being coy?

That year, Coppermine hit 800mhz December 12 and Athlon hit 750 on November 29 (with 800mhz Athlon not released until early Q1 of the following year). 1GHZ Athlon came out in Q1 of the next year, with 1.2GHZ not out until Q3.
