I just remember that I read some where that the 22" display was getting close to the max bandwidth of the interface ... the max bits per second that can travel over the digital video cable.

The postscript processor (the G4 and video card) converts the postscript commands to a bitmap and sends these bits over that cable ...

Perhaps if the displays contained the postscript processor bandwidth would not be a big issue ... this is very much like X-terms ... the video processing is handled by the display terminal and the server (i.e your computer) just sends the postscript info ...
