QCOM is intelligently laying a series of hierarchical decisions. Wireless companies need to have the full gambit of WCDMA alternatives - CDMA2000, GSM-GPRS/CDMA2000, and GSM-GPRS/WCDMA.

If you judge Qualcomm by their harsh criticism of WCDMA, you might not expect UMTS services to ever get launched. Based on their product development, they have now cornered every aspect of the chipset market for handsets and infrastructure. "Well done is better than well said." (Ben Franklin)

The radioOne 6200 solution interfaces directly with the QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT) MSM6200(TM) Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) baseband processor and supports tri-band UMTS devices, using GSM-900, GSM-1800 or International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) bands.

Also interesting is the 6200 supports only GSM-900/1800/UMTS2GHz but not yet GSM800/1900 that will be used in the US.
