FLASH! Greenspan and O'Neill agree that consumers need more financial education (to avoid problems resulting from not understanding agressive accounting, no doubt). Nothing said yet about company CEO's learning more about deceptive practices or getting more education via jail terms.

The crisis in investor confidence is measured by the recent run up in gold prices. The U.S. has been traditionally the safe haven for investors because of its disclosure laws and enforcement measures against fraud. The recent turnaround in policy (i.e., educate consumers, don't worry about enforcing the laws) is stunning and foretells a potential disaster in the stock markets--just because the government seeks to avoid blame for any of this.

How does this relate to QUALCOMM (which is why I am putting it on this tread)? If one assumes that the government MUST take some action, if for no other reason than covering its rear, the higher royalties and chip sales from China alone will have a significant impact on investors' willingness to own the shares. There could be another month or two of uncertainty and weak prices, but after that . . . the fun begins.

JW - This is now going OTT. The US economy is not collapsing and neither is the global economy in a melt-down.

This is after Jan earnigns there is nothing to hold stocks up as the recovery is still not visible. With no buyers in sight the hedge fund/shorts will come out to play since the profit Cat's away.

The Cats coming back.

Best,

L

Jim Wiolly$HUI does not include gold stocks that hedge out further than 1 1/2 year.
