Yep, we're stuck. The special interests benefiting from each loophole scream loudly when their loophole is threatened (we're still subsidizing mohair wool of all the stupid things!), while the general public whose pockets are being picked snooze. It's Malthus' "Tragedy of the Commons" all over again: My special tax preference is MINE, but what is publicly owned is MINE also! I hate to be a cynic, but every time Congress has proclaimed they were going to 'simplify' the tax codes... they have made them even more complicated.
