IS-41 based networks need SIM cards? Remember the Vodaphone experiment of 1998?

Sim card software has been available off the shelf for 5 years now.

AT&T doesn't want us to have number portability. Keeps most of its customers from running, screaming, to Sprint with a phone number that AT&T actually had to buy from the US govt.

What will we do with the abandoned Nokia/AT&T handsets? And their "spress on covers"?
