And to keep pushing the envelope. >> Well, if they claim that the MSM6200 and MSM6300 sample "on-time" in H2 after being pushed back from H1, as they did with the MSM5100 that sampled "on-time" 4 months after initial published dates, I'll question the "open & clear", but I do appreciate them keeping us informed. In this case it looks like the "envelope" pushed them. <g> Happens to everyone. All the major handset players pushed back initial product ramps for dual-mode 3GSM that will start royalty flow to Qualcomm, from H1 to H2 and it remains to be seen whether they will make it, although I suspect they (some) will. << Assume you will be at Cannes. >> No, I'm afraid I won't be in Cannes this year for the 2002 3GSM World Congress ( February 19-22). I'll read about it in the press. Actually it has been 4 years since I have been there. It has always been more of a conference than an exhibition but I was surprised to see that there are now 462 exhibitors in 4 Halls which is probably about 2 to 3 times as many as when I last attended. The major manufacturers will probably still be saving major product announcements for CeBIT 2002 in Hannover, Germany, March 13 to 20. Over 8,000 exhibitors this year with about 1,250 specializing in telecom. I have attended several exhibitions in Hannover. Now THOSE are exhibitions. CeBIT claims to be the world's largest trade fair exclusively for the IT industry, and also the largest trade show of any kind, anywhere in the world. As mobile wireless telephony and IT converge, this show takes on increasing significance. and some real business is conducted there. I could be wrong, but I think that is where we will first see first formal product introduction of dual-mode 3GSM handsets. One of these days, perhaps Qualcomm will free up some budget and exhibit there. I was hoping they would be there this year. It does look like Qualcomm's 2 booths in Hall 1 at cannes are nicely situated. Best, - Eric -
