fyodor - <<<the Prost Racing trouble>>>

For those of us less familiar with Formula 1, could you please explain what this trouble is?

Is it Alain Prost?

Reynoso

-fyo, Re: <You're not a big F1 fan, are you?>

Not to the extent I once was back when I was racing sports cars, but I do follow the sport a little.

Re: < McLaren is the Mercedes Benz team. They provide the engine, do some chassis development support and also own a chunk of the team itself.>

I would have said, rather, that Mercedes Benz supplies the engines for Mclaren; but Compaq has nothing to do with them AFAIK. West is the prime sponsor of the Mclaren team. That's why they they call the car the West McLaren Mercedes.(Sun Microsystems also provides some sponsorship, though not a lot.)

On the other hand, I am familiar with the Compaq BMW Williams team which I think has a pretty good shot at the championship with Montoya(Who I think will race much more effectively with a year under his belt) and Ralph Schumacher.

They also have a pretty good sound clip on their web site bmw.williamsf1.com

I was hoping Compaq was sponsoring Mercedes in one of the sedan or sports car series.

The auto racing biz provides a pretty good bang for the advertising buck, IMO, but F1 seems over-priced to me as compared to some($50M doesn't go very far there). Still, if you want world wide recognition in one package, you can sure pick it up there in a hurry.

I don't know how I feel about the 2 way telemetry rule changes where the cars software settings can be modified from the pits by radio. And I'm pretty sure I preferred driver controled starts to radio/software controled ones.
