The gaps are beginning to be filled in...Before UMC aligned itself with AMD, no doubt UMC not only liked what was presented of the Hammer in AMD's future, but also liked AMD's potential future customer list!!!

<font color=green>This link almost confirms SUNW and AMD

But Sun can't make that claim today since hardware, software and services resources will now be spread out to cover Linux as well as Solaris. Additionally, forthcoming Sun servers will use chips compatible with the Intel architecture rather than Sun's own SPARC chips.

It's unclear whether these systems will be sold under the Sun brand or Cobalt, which was a small server company that Sun bought in 2000. When asked about branding, a Sun executive said it wasn't going to "get into the minutia" of marketing at this time.

Milo,

Hope it's true, if so it will be HUGE!!!

Thanks for the post. When I read this morning that the SUN Linux servers would use x86 chips, I had a feeling that they were AMD, since they did not explicitly say Intel. This will open the door for them to then adopt Hammer. How, we just need them to change their decision on x86 Solaris. This is good news. Also, I fully expect Apple to adopt Hammer with OS X.
