No. What he is saying is that when Dell chooses Banias over Barton is the same as when IBM chose the 286 over the 386. IBM didn't fail at that point, it just was the point where observers picked as the point where IBM lost their lead over Compaq...

If Dell lasts more years as a company after choosing Banias ove Barton than IBM will have after choosing 286 over 386, you can tell me, "I told you so."
