Wait, you're telling me that if I have 100,000 deposited in 3 seperate banks, and one bank goes under- the govt wont refund my 100k because I still have 200k of assets elsewhere? Am I missing something? I thought I could put 100k into a dozen banks and even if they all went under, my 1.2 mil would be made whole. <<If and only if they do not have FDIC insured assets elsewhere. The insurer will check all FDIC insured assets one owns at all institutions using your social security number and you are only allowed to keep $100,000 total>> Excellent point! Thanks for reminding me about that little wrinkle...now if I can only find enough empty coffee cans....<G>
