It's not just about mutant aliens. Any image or video look very poorly with 256 colors. Font smoothing works much better with at least 16 bit color. Don't worry, you will not have to give lame excuses for this pathetic Intel product for much longer. Intel is finally upgrading it. In about 3 months to 4 months, you will be able to say that the graphics in 815 was a POS.

Clearly graphics are a much bigger deal to you than they are to me. The graphics on the i815 are not a POS to most of us and for those who prefer higher performance there is an AGP slot. The graphics were essentially free on the i815 and you don't have to use it. I got 1600x1200 at 70hz and that's ok for me. Images and video are of no interest to me. I do have a tv card which I can use by just dropping down to 1280x1024 and 16bit color. It's a mouse click away.

Joe, <In about 3 months to 4 months, you will be able to say that the graphics in 815 was a POS.>

I won't. I've built three or four systems for friends, and all of them used the 810/815 integrated graphics. Heck, my old P3 1.0 GHz system used the integrated graphics, and that's because I haven't played any 3D game on my PC for a long time.

All of these systems demonstrated amazing stability. And none of my friends pretended that they needed anything more. In that view, the 810/815 graphics served it purpose well. Calling it a POS would not do it justice.

P.S. - I did try one modern 3D game on my old P3 system. Surprisingly, it ran pretty well, despite the fact that the graphics was introduced way back in mid-1999. I won't pretend that it was XBox or Playstation 2 quality, though.
