No, I think W. has it right. George 41 was too involved with the CIA and previous administration ties. G.W ran for office and won. George 43 knows how to go about fighting for what he believes is right, plus is a very religious man. If he pisses off a few allies, they were not allies to begin with. Remember we are a nation of Laws.

I've never seen any evidence of an arrogant or mean streak. To the contrary, I believe GWB is a genuinely nice and well grounded person with a steely determination that comes through when he is sure he wants to do something...

I don't think Bush Sr's problem was that he tried to hard to please conservatives. Its that he promised no tax increases and then he increased taxes, alienating his conservative base (and many moderates) without getting more support from liberals. Some Democrats are calling for more taxes now. If Bush goes along he could share the fate of his father.
