Again, John, the Iranian leadership is spouting their solidarity line to the masses, but are also publicly responding to point out that they are trying to control their Afghani border and not building a nuclear bomb.

So while they talk one thing, they are still trying to demonstrate their cooperativeness.

And with Powell clarifying that the complaint is not with the Iranian populace, but with the government extremists, and that we have no plans to attack Iran, it seems to me that both sides are playing the same game: talk trash to play to the crowd, but otherwise behave civilly.
