Oil, and the whole balance of the power in the region. If we had let Saddam keep Kuwait, what would have stopped him from rolling into Saudia Arabia? Certainly not the Saudis.

That would have given him a large share of region's oil, and made him the number one power in that part of the world. Not in our interests, that.
