Seldom is not the same as never. But there are economic issues involved there too, as my former Senator would be sure not to attest to in public.

Historically, the US has seldom paid much more than lip service to democracy when there were economic issues that cut the other way.

If that's so, why support Israel? the economic issues are cut the other way.


I'm certain Win will have a response, Nadine, but my own take, already stated, is that it's the Jewish population in the US and it's character as a swing vote in many states. Need not mention Florida in these contexts.

As for economic reasons, I'm like you; not aware of any.

My own illustrations for Win's argument are Chile in the 70s and Iran in the 50s. But the list is rather long.
