JUPITER, Fla.-- Photomask maker Photronics Inc. reported a 2% sequential increase in sales to $95.7 million in the company's fiscal first quarter, ended Jan. 31, compared to $93.8 million in the prior three-month period. The company's sales were 3% lower than $98.6 million in the same quarter last year.

Photronics' net income for the just-ended fiscal quarter was $1.7 million vs. $8.4 million in the same period last year.

"An increasing number of semiconductor manufacturers are beginning to see their businesses stabilize," said Constantine "Deno" Macricostas, chairman and CEO of Photronics. "Design activity has remained healthy, particularly where semiconductor designers have been able to leverage advanced wafer process technologies to improve device performance, yield per wafer and improved product positioning in the market place."
