Hi Tom, I agree with you that most of the people on SI are politically conservative, but disagree about their socioeconomic status. I see conservative rants from professors to high school dropouts around here, and it's not the political stance that bothers me, it's the namecalling, the piling on, the innuendo. A number of these people are very nice in private, but the aggressive group behavior is worrisome and certainly doesn't help their 'message' when they engage that way.

Hi Thomas, Re: siege mentality of Republicans Without a well defined, paranoid siege mentality you cannot justify a $48 Billion increase in the War Department budget. The siege mentality is a good talking point. And a wonderfully hypocritical justification for war mongerer's profits. Besides which, most wealth accumulation is driven not by need, but by envy. This and anger are the main characteristic of the Limbaugh type Republican. Small mindedness personified. I have a relative who retired in the 1980's with millions of dollars and no worries. Today, he's spiteful, angry and listening to Limbaugh every day. Completely maladaptive, but somehow satisfying some inner demons. Go figure. -R.
