the way to leave 'luck' out of the equation is being disciplined in the use of STOPS, tight stops

this is unrealistic because it ignores the volatility issue. e.g., little likelihood of consistent 100% gains if one uses an 8% trailing stop, imho.

there is no way to outperform the market without any risk; which is to say, without any luck. that would be like a money machine which, once discovered, would have its value eliminated as numerous participants exploited it.

typically what one finds in "sure thing" type trades is that the trading costs and spreads eat up any profit potential.
