True, but in this case Moody's is probably trying to get ahead of the curve, the agencies having been criticized for maintaining their ENRON ratings until far too late in the debacle.

Of course yesterday was the day I finally went into ELN at 14.50.

Yes, like almost every other analyst. But, Moody's et al are not in the business of giving investment advice. Their focus is credit risk assessment. And from that point of view it actually makes some sense to wait until after the fact. Of course in the case of Enron there was too much emphasis put on the waiting element.
