The business plan seems on track, with major wins in China

What evidence is there to suggest that QCOM is going to get these major wins in China? Yes, they won China Unicom, but they are still swimming upstream when you consider the installed cellular infrastructure *and* the fact that money is being spent in large amounts on GPRS.

Perhaps a better question would be "what happens to QCOM if these major wins never materialize?", what does QCOM have as a contingency plans.

IMO, any company that has its eggs in the China basket as a key to long term success is going to have serious problems.
