Anyone who bought in 1982 got their head smashed in the 1987 drop where almost 50% of the gains from 1982 were lost. No difference there.

To put it in terms without ewave, the run from 1942 ended in 1966, but the 1975 low was also found in 1962 so you have what appears to be a back end extension of the range. On the other end of the spectrum. The highs really didn't break until 1982, but thedips between 1978 and 1982 never reached the 1974 low. They were all higher lows and thus the bull market conceivably started in 1974. Overall, it look like the bear raneg went from 1963 to 1982, but it peaked in 1966 and bottomed in 1974.
