Fiber is worthless from the time you put it in the ground. Sure, it's great for high speed traffic, but it is lousy for delivering any kind of service. Even if you could get a DSL line to your house, how many households want to pay an extra $40 a month for services you can only use at home? Only 7% of the current ISP market includes DSL.

Technologies like Bluetooth, USB ports, 802.11B will become increasingly important for CDMA2000 and GPRS/WCDMA subscribers. Wireless voice and internet services need to be networked from the WLAN cell to the micro and pico cell. How is fiber going to be of any value added in a 3G environment.

It be will be interesting to see how soon Qualcomm can leverage their relationship with pc companies like CPQ to start getting some 1xEV laptops and pc Bluetooth compatible with CDMA2000.
