Alcatel invites the visitors of the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes to surf on the first live large scale GPRS & UMTS networks. The GPRS network deployed in Cannes is enabled by Alcatel's state of the art Evolium(TM) radio and core solutions, providing full live GPRS coverage not only on Alcatel's booths but extending its coverage to partners such as Philips, Trium and Texas Instruments, three leading providers of Information Technology products and services. The network showcases end-to-end live demonstrations for mobile Internet applications, such as MMS -Multimedia Messaging Services and Mobile Office applications. Alcatel provides furthermore a complete end-to-end UMTS network based on a core-network located in the Paris area which comprises its Alcatel 1000 MSC/HLR, SGSN & GGSN and a radio infrastructure comprising five Node B's, located in Cannes. Alcatel will therefore provide full 3GPP UMTS coverage in various Alcatel's locations, also extending its live UTMS coverage to strategic partners such as Trium and Orange. All three leading UMTS companies will jointly demonstrate the reality of live UMTS applications, such as Visiophony with circuit switched connections at 64 Kbps, and Mobile Internet Applications in packet switched connections reaching 384Kbps. "Live GPRS and UMTS coverage for our partners during the 3GSM World Congress demonstrates that Alcatel is committed to provide field-proven infrastructure and best-in-class technology", said Marc Rouanne, president of Alcatel's Mobile Networks activities.
