>If the desktop Tbred is MIA in Q2 and Q3, we will see an interesting anomaly, I bet, as the notebook chip prices may drop below desktop prices.<

Desktop TBred may indeed be MIA in Q2, but I would be shocked if it is MIA for Q3.

<Unfortunately, there is a bad parallel between Palomino and Tbred. They were both supposed to come out in Q4, then slipped to beginning of Q1, then just Q1, then shipments to customers would happen to Q1, then, these will be only notebook chips at first, notebook vendors can't turn on a dime, and it is middle of Q2 before the first Palomino is in hands of the users.>

Another reason for Palomino delay was that it first taped out as Mustang and then the marketing woke up and discovered that there were no market for a beefed up server part, instead that there was a screaming need for a slimmed down notebook part. They were right, except about a year late with the insight.

Joe: Unfortunately, there is a bad parallel between Palomino and Tbred. They were both supposed to come out in Q4, then slipped to beginning of Q1, then just Q1, then shipments to customers would happen to Q1, then, these will be only notebook chips at first, notebook vendors can't turn on a dime, and it is middle of Q2 before the first Palomino is in hands of the users.

For well over a year now, Tbred has been listed as "production Q4, shipments Q1". Remember, it does take 10-12 weeks from production start to the chips are actually available to ship anywhere.

Additionally, if the first lots are used for notebooks, you can add several more weeks that the chips will spend in the company of whichever OEM is doing the notebook.

If Tbred appears in this quarter at all, there's really no basis for claiming slippage.
