Journalists should give up the notion that they have no bias. That goes against human nature! I guess they're taught that at journalism school, but it really is an impossible thing to do. The silly idea of becoming a drone when reporting just doesn't work. Before journalism became a profession, (a fairly recent phenomenon) reporters were regular guys who hung out with hustlers, gamblers, and cops. In other words, they were on the ground where they could get the scoop on a story. Like the guy who offers a comment on the Romenesko site says, modern reporters operate from a privileged perch. They're often clueless how to relate with those they are writing about.
