I would offer that now is the exact time to argue (and crow) about technical superiority. Now the carriers can no longer hide behind an inefficient technology. They can no longer afford to indiscriminately throw money at a lesser solution. Every dollar (and Euro) counts. They must take the most efficient technology in order to compete with the others who are compelled to maximize investment returns.

IMO, it is a big red herring to continue the argument about technical superiority until capital flows return to this part of the market.

Sprint PCS has about $200 million left to spend to complete their 1x upgrade. The subsidy for 1x handsets shouldnt be much larger than for non-1x handsets. For this investment, they will realize a near doubling of voice capacity. This will have an immediate effect on Cash Cost per User (which is around $34). Any drop in this metric is realized directly on the bottom line of the carrier....

The best thing for their EBITDA would be to launch 1x....

Because they, like everyone else in telecom, are facing capital constraints...the bottom line for qcom, is that their customers are in a tough environment. IMO, it is a big red herring to continue the argument about technical superiority until capital flows return to this part of the market.

And the all decide to deploy WDMA (We Don't have Money Anymore) technology instead!

And so it goes,
