There is selective hiring going on. Most are waiting but the Bay Area job world has gone from massive layoffs to adding a few. Veritas announced a reasonably big hiring wave. BEA has some jobs available. Siebel is hiring again. Craigslist.com is all the rage here in bay area... job postings are up noticeably on that site... it certainly isn't a 'good' job environment but relative to multiple rounds of huge layoffs, it is better. there is still a lot of pain at the brokerages. everybody is sitting on huge cash positions and not trading much. combine that with few deals and traders, salesmen and i-bankers are all pretty depressed.
