compete in the same space as McKinley.

Point taken, but Hammer's SpecInt will be comparable to McKinley (at the very least). On top of that respectable baseline performance, how many Hammer's can you fit into that same budget? While the customers in this market may very well be rocket scientists, they won't need to be in order to do the math here. ;)

What I don't have a good feel for, tho, is the types of app's IA64 is addressing and how Hammers as SMP or clusters might serve that market - also taking into consideration the advent of the projected 1 MB L2 version.
