All of this is, IMHO, done more efficiently in emacs (or any other decent text editor) and LaTeX. Publish directly in pdf format or use HyperLaTeX for HTML target.

I am not familiar with those tools, but I had a misfortune to work on a Unix system (at a client) with the only text editor being VI. After a couple of days of trying to figure out the bizarre and completely retarded key combinations (and to fit in with the Unix cavemen), I just gave up, ftp-ed files from the Unix box to the PC (terminal) and used the state of the art tool (Notepad.exe) rather than endanger my mental health with VI.

PS: Are you talking about text based text editors, or gui based text editors?
