They have no idea that different technologies are out there. A friend of mine recently sent an e-mail to about six people asking for advice about what cell phone to purchase. Yup, she included me on the list! I responded that she should select the technology before deciding on the cell phone and I explained why. I also mentioned that very few consumers realize that not all networks are based on the same technology and that I would be very surprised if anyone on her relatively short list of people mentions a choice of technology. She wrote back that, indeed, I was the only person who mentioned it. --Mike Buckley
