Well, I was just answering another poster's questions. It's kind of like trying to call market tops or bottoms. I am going to stand by my call. We may have to wait for several more centuries to pass to know better.

LOL! Yeah, why is it "the good days" keep moving forward?

Henry Ford is often remembered and chided for his "History is bunk" statement. But those were only three words extracted from a longer statement of his. What he really said was that what ends up in the history texts is a small selected sampling of the realities of the times, supporting the authors viewpoint on matters, and that most events and details get edited out.

The same is true of the "1865-1961" paradigm. Are the 1920s gangster mobs included among these willing practicing Christians? Or the 1890s robber barons? Or the many stock market swindles that occurred during that period? The Jim Crow laws?

Darwin's "Origin of Species" was published in 1865 and its scientific backing grew exponentially thereafter. Does that count too?

Experiments were performed without their consent in the American South on unknowing blacks who had syphilis. The experiment consisted largely in intentionally not treating them. Is this an example of the exercise of Christian virtue?

It is only because of the fading of the realities of a period with time that they are remembered as some sort of Golden Age. A closer examination shows the gold to be only a thin layer of gilt covering the same sort of confused mess (with differing details) as currently exists.

And I'm glad to see you back and hope you do at least occasionally honor us with your thoughts.

And remember, there's more material for fiction here than you could gather in a hundred lifetimes. (Of course, some of it IS unbelievable- -like the last few weeks.)

Are you familiar with this thread:

There's a book there. (Of course, straightening out the little matter of copyrights could keep several armies of lawyers busy for decades.)

Are there any opium dens where you're at?
