Despite all that has happened in the past year or more, the consumer (as a group) has remained surprisingly stalwart. The contraction cannot be blamed on the consumer...well, there is my friend Norman Noodleman who has pulled in his [spending] horns rather sharply. I've spoken to him repeatedly, but he refuses to open his wallet and do the patriotic thing...spend! No, this has been a corporate pulling in on horns. I shall look closely at indicators that the corporate sector that suggest this group is felling better and planning to expand/spend and other stuff that will pull us out of this dastardly recession.
