I did not say "non-white", I said "non-elite white." White men who were not elite. Many, if not most, of whom were racist, and more violently opposed to the non-whites and recent immigrants who were competing with them for jobs at the bottom of the ladder.

From the point of view of a factory owner, why not hire the cheapest labor, regardless of color or national origin?

I applauded the successes and lamented the failures in my post, John. I believe the solution to the race problem in the USA will come from Individualism, not collective pressure groups. Don't assume that because I do not agree with your position on Racial Politics, I am a Bigot and a Racist. This kind of thinking is one of the things in the way of solving the race problem, IMO

I hope a lot of people here saw the show on PBS this weekend about the overall History of blacks during WWII. The History of the 92nd Division, in Italy, under Ned Almond, is really tragic. The 71st Tank history under Patton is also instructive.
