The product was, if I recall correctly, preannounced in June 23rd, 1999 and announced on August 9th 1999. The first public K7 demo (analogous to today's Hammer demo) was on November 18th, 1998. That's seven months from demo to preannouncement and eight and a half from demo to announcement. This would coincide with a 2001Q4 Hammer preannouncement and announcement is the situation went through in a similar fashion.       -JC
