Funny you use the expression "big uglies."

My father used to take me along to fish for "big uglies"--his exact phrase. You anchored where the pogy boats threw out their trash fish and dropped an 80-pound-test line and a long steel leader with a huge hook baited with an entire small fish, and then you waited. After a while you would have to raise the anchor because you were being slowly towed away. I once hooked a 145-pound sting ray that towed the boat about three-quarters of a mile. When I got it to the surface my father shot it six times with a .38 special.

I now regret having persecuted and killed that harmless sting ray. Don't think I will ever regret having shorted some Qualcomm when it was about 95. Unfortunately I cut the line on the Qualcomm much too soon.

knighty knight, any ideas how to maximize returns if one wants something relatively risk averse but doesn't like 2% returns? stocks are a bit pricey for me. i think rates head back up so bonds don't look good.

how can a guy get 6 or 7% with minimal risk?
