"Gold Robbery" and "They were stiffed" were common themes... I do think they were praised for their behaviour (plus of course.. it doesnt hurt that Sale is pleasing to the eyes and that they're a romantic couple.. a positive image never hurt) Scott, I have to tell you that I actually saw them skate. What happened was I was watching downhill and then they cut into the figure skating tournament with the announcer saying that the next three couples coming up were the best. It was someone else, then the Russians [who were supposed to be the best] and then Sale and Pelletier. During the warmup, the Russian male skater and Sale collided with each other and everyone was wondering whether they would skate. They did of course. The Russians skated just before S & P......after watching their performance, I really questioned how they could be the best......of course, I know nothing about figure skating. Then S & P were up........and they were amazing. Before they could finish their performance, the crowd starting chanting six! six! six! P kissed the ice.......I mean, it was clear the gold medal was a done deal. And then when the judges ranked them second, the crowd started to hiss and boo....I thought they were going to riot [had it been soccer or hockey, they would have ;~))]. With that as the backdrop, the next AM when I saw S & P on the Today show, I think, I was expecting a hollywood tantrum. Not in this lifetime........they made it clear they were angry without being strident or whiny, and at the same time, they said they were grateful to have the silver. Truly, it almost was better than their skating performance. I guess here in the US we have a history of Tonya Hardings acting out and breaking legs, and don't expect mature behavior on the part of our performers. It was nice to see. ted
