The common public perception is that the law is a ass, that the rule of law exists only for the few that can afford lawyers, that lawyers are okay but you wouldn't want your sister to marry one, that politicians lie, that Reagan/Bush/Poindexter/North/et al did at least as much damage to the rule of law with Iran/Contra (and let's not forget Nixon/Agnew/Mitchell/Erlichman/Haldeman/Liddy et al before them), and that Clinton got the punishment he deserved: disbarment and some civil penalties.
