Popular with the college crowd (I owned several over the years). Not any good if you are large or overweight. ------------------------------------------------------ Mini aims to take US by stealth Mini has revealed plans to use a quirky advertising campaign to gain a foothold in the US. The car will not appear on expensive television commercials or glossy spreads in magazines. Instead billboards, posters and spoof small ads will tease potential buys into buying the car, which will be the smallest vehicle on American roads. So-called "stealth" marketing is also being used, with a fleet of Minis put on top of giant American four-wheel drives, know in the US as sport-utility vehicles, or SUVs, and driven around the country. The giant cars have a poster on the side saying "What are you doing this weekend?" and when people ask about the strange combination of a small car on top of an outsized one, they are given a card with the message "Coming to America" and a website address. Other tactics include a magazine insert which contains a booklet called "The Book of Motoring". The book suggests drivers pay for the car behind them on toll roads and feed other parking meters if they see an attendant, and added: "Motorers look out for each other." Kerri Martin, who is in charge of marketing the Mini in America, told the Wall Street Journal: "We really had a blank state for a marketing perspective." The four seat-car is also to be advertised with billboards which read "XXL, XL, L, M, S, Mini", and only have the car's website address. Other posters will read "Let's sip, not guzzle", in a reference to the Mini's frugal fuel consumption, and "The SUV backlash officially starts now".ananova.com
