Tell it to Compaq who thinks it's doubling performance every year for the next 5. when you start so low, it is easy to double for quite a while. also is this the same compaq which couldn't see the cpu which was much faster than itanium as it was, which doubled every year during its existence and junked it ? also what's up with hp which seems to have a "pa" plan for the next 3 years or so and these guys are designing those new versions of ia64. ia64 doesn't look good no matter how you look at it. we'll see if intc can pull a rabbit this time. they tried coming out with new isa's a couple of times with almost complete failures. but hp should know more about designing high performance risc chips.
