I have thoroughly tested Google's new system. It had some huge kinks at first, but they have been good about working through them. There are many advantages to Google's system...listings go online immediately, it takes less effort to bid upon endless combinations of keywords, and relevancy is monitored by clickthrough rate (saving work for both the advertiser and the Google staff.) There are also many disadvantages to their system... the inferior relevancy subjects it to abuse and makes the results less attractive to potential partners like Yahoo or AOL, their bidding process - although somewhat different from Overture's - still may eventually be deemed a copyright infringement, and the back-end listing management and billing are not as smooth and as clean as Overture's. The bottom line? Google will carve out their own niche and probably will steal some business from Overture, but I dont see them ever coming close to catching up. Despite the recent worries about Overture renewing the AOL deal, etc, they are still growing their revenues and profits at a phenomenal rate with no sign of slowing down. They continue to grow rapidly overseas and with small affiliate partners. I think investors are overlooking the fact that Yahoo, AOL, and MSN are not the only sources of their revenue. Renewal of their big contracts isnt even assumed in their revenue projections, so even if they lost these deals they will still be posting huge numbers. I've been correct in the past several times, so for those of you who now trust my opinion now... Overture may drop just a bit more from here, to the low 20's at worst, but within the next month or so you will see a sharp rebound. I have a strong feeling the rebound may actually start as early as tomorrow (March 21st). Watch and see. I still expect it to hit the 40's at least by year's end when profits are set in stone and all the paranoia is cast aside. I put my money on May 30 calls I bought today.
