I think Hammer will have to be much better than the Athy was over the P3

CuMine outperformed Athlon upon introduction both clock for clock and in absolute terms. Unfortunately it ran out of headroom before Athlon did. As for Hammer, we really have no data whatsoever to support the claim that it will outperform P4. We have slides and Jerry's mouth but that's worth about as much as NiceGuy's options.

Jim:

"Even then, look how long SUN remained strong even after they had an inferior platform....

It will take more than just a superior product to chew more into Intel...a nice paradigm shift is what's needed."

JS said tonight that AMD had doubled its market share since '96, let's say it took 6 years...If Hammer's attributes are much superior to p4's, it may not take another 6 years to go from 20% to 40%...AMD's Athy has laid the foundation...If Hammer's features provide significant advantage over INTC's offerings, accelerating market share gains by AMD are a likelihood, imo...Indeed 2003 could be a banner year for AMD as the Hammer product cycle swings into full gear...
