Mobile operators turn to government ( Poland ) for 3G delay europemedia.net 04/03/2002 Editor: Tamsin McMahon Poland s three mobile operators turning to the government to help get a one-year delay for the launch of 3G services, the Warsaw Business Journal is reporting. Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC), Polkomtel and PTK Centertel confirmed they have sent a petition to the Infrastructure Ministry asking it to persuade the telecoms regulator to postpone 3G roll out until January 2005. The companies say 3G-enabled handsets and infrastructure will need huge investments to be ready in time for the current December 2003 deadline set out in their licences. The operators turned to the ministry after filing a request with the Telecommunications Regulatory Office (URT) in September for a delay. The officer had 60 to respond, but has yet to make a decision. Although the ministry has no authority to force a ruling from the regulator, the operators hope its pressure might speed things up. A URT spokesman said he didn t know when his office would have a decision. He said the request was still being investigated and the office would have to examine the 3G launch plans in other countries. The operators say as much as $2.7bn (E3.1bn) will have to go into UMTS networks if they are to be ready in time for late 2003.

For personalization, messaging and entertainment, the T206 features screensavers, games and enhanced messaging services, EMS. The T206 is the first Sony Ericsson branded CDMA phone for the Americas. The T206 is Sony Ericsson's second tri-mode handset for CDMA2000 1X networks.
