Plus in some cultures it may not be regarded as a sin (and/or not actually illegal..

And neither is physical abuse of woman/children or rape of a wife. In many cultures, the man still owns them as he does his property.

A few weeks ago, 60 Minutes, I think it was, had a program about English children in orphanages and foster care who were sent to Australia, purportedly for adoption, who were then housed at a church facility and used for slave labor. They were told their parents were dead. Now around 60ish, a few have been able to reunite with their families for visits, but no apology or compensation is being offered them. Are you familiar with this story? I'm sorry but it's been a while and I'm fuzzy on the details.
