Very interesting, Jewel.

It establishes guidelines for such a strike and the rules are extensive but the short version is this.

We are now getting into a "hot issue". What constitutes physical abuse and what is considered to be discipline?
We know that in other cultures, discipline may be more abusive than we feel comfortable with. Is the parent who slaps a little hand that keeps going near the stove even after "No" has been tried several times, abusive? Is the parent who gives a swat to the bum of a four year old who keeps hitting the dog, abusive? What about the mother who slaps the face of her teenage son when he calls his sister "a slut"?

Spare the rod and spoil the child?
What constitutes abuse? We know what is on the extreme end...but where do we draw the line?
