There is a difference between a child and jail bait, for one. And there is a difference between rape and statutory rape. And which is the greatest offense in your opinion? Sexually abusing a child? Having sex with an underage male/female? Yes, there is a difference between rape and statutory rape. The following is from the great conservative state of California for the definition of statutory rape:To identify and investigate unlawful sexual intercourse and lewd acts with children as described in Penal Code 261.5 and 288(c) Penal Code 261.5 : Sexual intercourse acts occurring between minors 16 years of age & under with adults 21 and over: (grant parameters) Penal Code 288(c) : Lewd act with child 14 or 15 years and perpetrator is over the age of 21. And from Webster"rape1 Pronunciation Key (rp) n. The crime of forcing another person to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse. The act of seizing and carrying off by force; abduction. Abusive or improper treatment; violation: a rape of justice statutory rape n. Sexual relations with a person who has not reached the statutory age of consent. And your comments:I can imagine a similar situation with a girl as the "victim." Say she had a mean, cold father whom she hated and who wanted her to quit school and get a job at the cannery. Say at sixteen she developed a friendship with an itinerant gardener ten years her senior who listened to what she had to say and encouraged her painting. And that friendship turned into an brief affair during which she learned that a man could be sweet and gentle and appreciative of her as a person. The affair ended when she left town for college, for which she had gotten an art scholarship. Yes, technically that's child molestation. But a bad thing? I can't say that. Well, I can! Because he listened to her...and encouraged her painting...and then seduced her into thinking that she was worthy of having sex? Please, Karen. You are way out there now. Because your male friends and this young girl did not have a knife to their throat...does not make this a memorable experience. If none of them protest, they are still under age...the abuser is still over the age of 21...and if it's not pedophilia, it's statutory rape!!! You sound like you're saying, "But she enjoyed the sex."..."She asked for it."..."She encouraged him."..." He's a boy. He could have fought her off and said no." "He liked it and told all his friends." Sorry, Karen. It's either rape, statutory rape, incest or pedophlia...but it's not about him speaking appreciatively of the circumstances that provided that opportunity to grow. Male or female...abuser or abused...if it's wrong ...it's wrong. Marie
