It all comes down to defining fair share. If a company headquartered in Bermuda makes profits in the US it pays US tax. If a company headquartered in the US makes profits in Bermuda it pays US tax. That is the competitive rub for multinational companies based in the US. It is no accident that the result is that most of the largest banks, insurers and others in the world are headquartered elsewhere than the US. In fact three of Canada's banks are larger than most US banks. We are the only country of any significance that taxes worldwide income.

Ford officials would have been turned over to psychiatrists for examination. To whom would one sell cars in 1942? Tanks on "cost-plus" contracts are the most lucrative products Ford ever made. One of the most fraudulent ideas in our public debate is that the hidden tax on individuals is somehow paid by corporations. One of the effective ways to stifle that fraud is for corporations to move to locations where those taxes can be minimized until we all wise up and abolish the tax. But that takes power away from the Daschlegephardt charlatans, and that's the real gripe on the left...
