ST - Trading FINAL POST:

As noted in my previous post, I just covered my short play from last night for a large loss. While unfortunate, I couldn't be happier with my YTD gains, and last year's gains. As some of you know, when I say "I covered," what is actually happening in most cases (and specifically in this case) is that I'm buying back shares in one or more long positions held by my family. Immediately after "I covered" those 5,000 shares, I turned around and sold them. I had to go through this process for accounting reasons. Earlier today I sold several thousand additional shares. The bottom line here is that after an emotional discussion this morning, we agreed to close our entire long held, long term positions in Applied Materials. As of this moment, my family holds only 300 shares in AMAT. As a result of this major change, I will no longer be trading AMAT on a short-term basis or cluttering the thread with real-time trading updates.
