REQUEST FOR TRADING HALT

Pilbara Mines Limited (The Company) requests that the Australian
Stock Exchange (ASX) grant, pursuant to Listing Rule 17.1, a trading
halt from 10.00am Tuesday 19 March 2002. The Company expects the
trading halt to last for two days.

The request for a trading halt is made pending an announcement by the
Company regarding new high-grade drill intercepts associated with the
discovery of significant copper-zinc massive sulphide mineralisation
at Teutonic Bore, as announced 26 February 2002.

These new intercepts, along with significant stringer zone
mineralisation below the massive sulphide system confirms a major new
base metal mineral discovery in Western Australia. With this
confirmation comes a new discovery name being the Jaguar deposit. All
future massive sulphide zones will be named after other big cats.

The Company expects to issue a detailed ASX announcement prior to the
opening of the market on Thursday 21 March 2002 after which we expect
the trading halt to be lifted.

The Company is not aware of any reason why the trading halt should
not be granted.
