Ted - If the Israelis back down or just let Palestinians shoot and bomb them with no response it will only encourage more terrorism. The general strategy of Sharon is the right one. You can argue over specific tactics or targets but if the other side is fighting a war against you, you have to fight back.

Sharon is showing that the Israelis have back bone but damn, those Palestinians just won't get it!! So please, tell me what is an effective policy.

You kill them. And you keep killing them until they get the message. There is no other way of dealing with the problem -- these are people who kill innocents; there can be absolutely zero tolerance. It is like a roach infestation. Everytime you see one you step on it.

Let those pious Saudi's do some work for once. You know if the USA get's involved it would be evil and bad so let the Muslims figure out how to make peace for once.

And what do you call effective policy?

That is, of course, a complicated question. I would not classify "inaction" as a component of one when faced with continued terrorism.

Sharon is showing that the Israelis have back bone but damn, those Palestinians just won't get it!! So please, tell me what is an effective policy.

In Israel's position, I would probably do the same thing. You can't expect them to sit back and get bombed all over the place.

The PLO has shown over and over again that they are not interested in negotiation. Israel offered them the farm at camp david, but they didn't accept. They don't seem to want a country of their own, just the destruction of Israel.

No policy will change that. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground for them to arrive at.
